Final walk for ERA

The final countdown rally for ERA was held on June 30th on Public Square in Cleveland from 4 to 7 p.m. Held on the northwest quadrant of the square, a crowd of some 200 were quite vocal in their support.

The rally was held as a kickoff point for the ERA exter:sion. Featured speakers included Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar, (D) and Tim Hagan, chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party.

Twelve other area women's organizations were also represented with speakers.

Entertainment was provided by three bands. One of these was the new women's band, Kix.

The rally was sponsored by the Cleveland and Cleveland-East chapters of NOW-the National Organization for Women.

A conservative estimate of the cost of bringing ERA to the media and to the public to provide the education needed to win passage of this amendment is some 10 million dollars$10,000,000.00. In order to help raise that sum, The Last Walk-aThon for ERA will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 9:00 a.m.

Leaving and returning to Shaker Square, the route will cover 10.3 miles and will go through highly visible areas.

NOW supports Lesbian rights and we would like to see our gay sisters and brothers walking hand in hand for this.
